Palliative Care & Hospice

Are you or a loved one suffering from a complex health diagnosis or terminal illness? Our caring and compassionate team at The Laurels can provide quality care, pain relief, symptom reduction, and emotional support with our Palliative Care and Hospice programs.

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care, often called "comfort care", is an interdisciplinary caregiving approach involving physicians, nurses, social workers and, oftentimes, clergy, that is aimed at optimizing quality of life and mitigating suffering for individuals with serious and complex health issues. Our palliative care program provides symptom management for guests, along with step-by-step guidance for families. Within a palliative plan of care, an emphasis is always placed on comfort and emotional well-being.

Palliative care can be delivered on both a short-term and extended stay basis. A short-term palliative care stay may be covered by Medicare or other insurance, while a guest receiving palliative care for a terminal illness may elect to enroll in a Medicare-certified Hospice Care program and receive additional services from a local hospice provider during their stay at The Laurels. A list of local organizations that offer hospice services is available at our facility.

Caring for yourself or providing care for a loved one with a serious health issue or terminal illness is a challenge -- The Laurels is here to help!
